Whilst spending a couple of days away on the north Norfolk coast during the Summer of 2009, I noticed this lonely ladybird sitting on the wet beach at Sheringham. I felt it made a nice visual contrast against the hard shiny pebbles, which also seemed to emphasise the minute scale of the insect compared with the vast expanse of the beach.
As I later found out, it wasn’t so lonely after all – the entire coastline had been awash with a plague of millions of ladybirds just a few days before I snapped this picture. I guess this little fella had somehow got left behind.
